PIERCED AARON DARWIN BUSES BEST

Yes here we are again folks as the Oz trip continues, yesterday Mandy and Sue went to Kakadu NP, they saw plenty of Crocs, Wallabies, Jabaru, Abos etc. I stayed in Darwin, a wet morning although it cleared lunch time and temp soared into 90s once more. Did all the three main bus stations and visited the depot where charming Aaron and staff hosted my visit, he may have had every orifice pierced and studded but was a charming chap. Well Road Trains ain't no easy target, it isn't like sitting at the side of the M6 motorway in England I can tell you, but eventually a got a few on film hanging around the yards and down the 'track' a way. We did ourselves dinner last night which was the best yet, at least we weren't too stuffed. Today we fly down to Adelaide and meet up with Alan and tomorrow I have a hectic morning filming the buses ands new trams before departure to Kangaroo Island for New Year.

PREGNANT HILLBILLY WITH BEARD AT DARWIN

Hi folks, still no access to photos but a word portrait. Christmas morning we got our luggage, the best possible present, we had Christmas lunch at Pee Wees on the point at Darwin, so so , loads of food and far too much wine, great location and service. We crashed out in the late afternoon and recovered enough for a few restorative cuppas in the evening. Boxing day was taken up with a drive to the Lichfield National Park where with the temperature in the mid 90s we enjoyed a refreshing dip in the rock pools and a look at one of the waterfalls. We sussed out the bus depot and road train yards ready for this mornings exploration. Mandy and Sue have gone off to Kakadu NP Crocodile Dundee country. It poured yesterday afternoon and again overnight, still looking a bit bleak but of course still hot and humid so fingers crossed. Eat in the Irish pub at the back of Saville hotel last night, portions too big to be true, service pretty crap though. Locals a sight to behold, women mostly pregnant , men with large beards, tattoos, broken knees and poorly dressed, Hillbilly country and not much on the telly at night me thinks. Tomorrow we have the flight down t Adelaide where we'll catch up with Alan Mortimer.
Saviulle hotel suites, not bad, 4 star ok but the back packer place is at rear with noisy music, ok if you keep your windows shut and keep off the balcony, Irish pub also suffered from rubbish modern ' music' blaring out, really spoilt it for me. Fruit bats all around when dark, parrots in the daytime, lizards etc abound, no roos yet much to the dismay of Sue, plenty of time to go though.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS FROM DOWN UNDER

Hi Folks,
Christmas greetings from Darwin Australia, its 7 am here, and we have just got our Christmas presents, our luggage which arrived a day after us. No usb port so can't post the wonderful sunset pics from last night. The flight was good except wheelchair assistance in Frankfurt was a farce and they deserve to be hung drawn and quartered! Singapore was spot on, Quantas have a no frills business Star Crap airlines which did the last sector to Darwin , very basic but still expensive, no one local likes the change. Shocked to find we had no cases but reassured it was a regular feature and not to worry. Well they were correct. The hotel The Saville is fine, lots of space and the Irish pub which serves enormous portions is at the back of us. We had to do some clothes shopping Christmas eve so we had clothes to wear but Mandy is busy unpacking right now. We had a sunset cruise on a catamaran how do you spell one of them?? Weather about mid 90s and sunny, parrots outside the windows, dolphins in the sea, Guinness was good as well last night. Went to bed 9.45 got up at 7, although previous guest had left the alarm on for 5.30, oh boy. Black ice and sleet in Melbourne hope that's gone by time we get there, everyone talks nothing but cricket, yawn. Found the bus stations already. Today Chrissie dinner at Pee Wees on the point in Darwin, tomorrow a trip to Lichfield national park in the little 4x4 car we have which is pretty and blue and seems to do the job fine. Well greetings again everyone.

Yes we have finally set the date for our short sharp transport tour of Europe next year which will take place mid June and take in new systems in France plus Swiss systems not done on our last visit, some German systems in the south west we haven't been to for a while, Luxembourg because I've never filmed there and Belgium because its in the way.

Last night I made a good start on the West Midlands regional bus film archive and also loaded scenes of Maltese buses in You Tube. Tonight I've got a company dinner so not much action expected other than food and wine for a change.

MORE BUS MEMORIES FROM THE SEVENTIES

Hi everyone, the big day looms ever nearer, tonight unaided I managed to get a video clip onto You Tube all be my lonesome, we celebrated by ending the eveing with these scans from some 70s photos of mine in Warrinton, what a splendid place it was then for buses, a suitably wintry looking scene I think. The camera bag is packed ready for Oz but tomorrow I hope to do some more work on the Midlands archive. Today I tracked down some friends from Sussex who I haven't seen for 34 years or more, great thing the net ( sometimes).

WEST MIDLANDS BUS PARADISE ARCHIVE

Hi everyone, another few days and the anticlimax of Christmas will have come and gone thank goodness. This weekend we got loads of jobs out of the way including packing the suitcases for Australia and briefing our neighbours who look after the house. I had a catch up on film covers for recent re releases then a shuffle around on the model bus shelves.
I eventually started to download all my West Midlands archive material ready for the next Regional Archive on that area including former municipals and Midland Red. Some of the film has really been damaged by colour distortion and much hasn't been available to re copy so doing my best to make it as presentable as possible, there really are a lot of gems from the early 1960s and the last scene is about 1981. Perhaps I'll get is done before Christmas, who knows.

CHESHIRE WHITE CHRISTMAS AT PMP

OK so its not a white Christmas but I had soap suds cleaning the cars this morning before friends Emma and James popped in for mince pies, they couldn't stay long as they were off to start a family or was it meet friends for lunch! Emma shows off her new hair style next to Mandy.

I have been completing some family films for friends ready for Christmas, hopefully after making a few covers I'll get all the recent releases on e bay and have another bash at You Tube.

FLYING HIGH

Today I edited onto DVD our programme 424 British Aircraft Heritage, it will take nearly a day to 'render' given the complexity of putting the images into true black and white, resizing , adjusting the colour scenes and generally brightening it up. Lasts just over an hour. planning to get a few covers done Sat for recent releases. Had works dinner at lunch time today, the camera was banned!

MANDY PACKS EM IN

Super mega busy Mandy, tonight she has her girls night out at Est Est Est in Knutsford. A bit of a panic with Knutsford Travel, got the Oz tickets, rang to check that the visa was on the electronic air tickets and they said no, panic, panic, a few moments later when they troubled to open the file it turns out it was done in March! Next time I'll do it all myself. The new travel clock which corrects itself to local time went onto French time in Ireland, just about as good as the 'easy' to copy record player which we sent back and my mobile phone which shows messages which you have to pay to listen to then discover you've already heard it, and then there's our new DVD recorder ***!!! about that one, must have sent the Korean version as the instructions can't really be in English.

Last night I finished the Sheffield 1994/5 Supertram programme , I hope to have another couple done tonight. Watched a bit of telly from recordings incl Victoria Woods wartime drama Housewife 59, very well written and acted.

SUPERTRAM MEMORIES CHRISTMAS LOOMING

Well last night I downloaded onto the computer the Sheffield Supertram scenes from 1994,5 and 6. This will probably mean the re release of three programmes in a slightly different mix all on DVD for the first time. That will leave Manchester Metrolink launch to do together with our early film on Docklands Light Rail. In between I listed a few more models, watched telly and finished off family Christmas Cards. It looks like being a hectic spell now until the new year, the post bag is still heavy with film orders.

IRELAND X FACTOR SCI FI SINGERS?

Its hard to believe you can put on so much weight over just one weekend. My sole bus photo taken Sunday morning which was wet and windy but Saturday was cold but sunny and you can see us on the beach in Co Waterford where we searched for suitable building sites for friends Hil and Sean. Sue also accompanied us on the jaint. We had an exchange of presents on Sat night, I got Bill Brysons recent childhood autobiography which was interesting given that I'm currently doing a similar excercise.
I had a bit of a tv education on Sat night, not my cup of tea was the x factor which I'd previously thought was a science fiction story, it may well have been with warbling Martians like demented soap stars, how could anyone get that worked up about a latter day Opportunity knocks and NO Hughie Green.
Tonight its back to the grind with the first two volumes of Sheffield Supertram going on to DVD ( 1995) also will include the 1996 update as a bonus.
Sales on e bay were very poor past week so auction items are going into the e bay shop .

MIDLAND METRO ON TRACK

apologies for the lack of photos the last few postings but its a very hectic time, we are still turning orders around within 24 hours but will have a break in Ireland this weekend. Last night was a bit of a techno nightmare, I ended up putting the rescue disk in my editing computer as it just wouldn't do DVDs, all sorted now and I was sensible enough to put added programme on another drive so they weren't wiped, time all this was sorted it was past bedtime. Thus finally the old Midland Metro launch film is on DVD.

Must be the stress but I'm at another low on weight, so well set for the Xmas stuffing. Made a bit of progress on my book yesterday and even ticked off a few more models in the log book.

Fraser has really got the PMP web site sorted, the list is up to-date, there is an order form attached and all price details are clearly given so no one should have any questions? I suppose I must get the next Ian Allan adverts done early next week, its going to be a mad whirl of dos, dinners and lunches and getting everything ready at work two weeks early.

GREETINGS FROM THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF BRITAIN

Well last night I finshed putting both volumes covering the start of Croydon Tramlink on DVD, Progs 809 and 810. I also downloaded the Birmingham tram film ready to edit tonight. I then put a trailer for Croydon on YouTube. Then we went down to our local The Crown in Lower Peiover for a pint of the black stuff and Mandy a couple of glasses of Merlot, just medicinal for her swollen knees she states. The weather continues wild wet and windy, fingers crossed for Ireland at the weekend.

I found a pirate posting of our Glasgow films on You Tube, no permission has ever been with held for use of my photos or film if someone has the coutesy to ask. Loading on You Tube involves making a statement that you own or have permission to use the material. This chap going under the nom de plume glasgowbus had neither, no apology was received just some sort of astonishment that I might be annoyed!

Meanwhile at the opub we discussed what a crappy place Britain has become under Blair and its no wonder that so many people want out of the country, just trying to figure out our escape plan, a lottery win would help, serously its running PMP thats the problem if we relocate at some stage. Big brother has nothing on the reality of living in Britain today, its a jungle.

UPDATING OUR WEB SITE

Hi Folks,
Fraser our web master has been burning the midnight oil updating ouer web site. There are a few issues to be resolved still such as the PMP film list which doesn't seem to open at present, when it's resolved we hope to update every time we issue new programmes. Mean time anyone needing updates can get the whole list from me on demand. I should have both volumes of Croydon Tramlink June 2000 ready tonight and a trailer posted on You Tube. Mandys knee is getting better thank goodness although still very inflamed.

MANDY WOUNDED BUT IN COMMAND OF THE BUNKER

Well Mandy certainly is feeling sore today, ice packs and heat trying to reduce the swelling in her knees and this our busiest period of the year, hopefully all will be well for our visit to Ireland next weekend. I've made a start ticking off my model buses in a stock book I bought at Boyle St, so hopefully I can add to the collection without duplication in future. Lots of goodies to put away on the shelves! ( Shhh don't tell Mandy). Playing around tonight with my new software and deck to copy vinyl records to CD via computer. Back to business tomorrow night, starting to edit first days of Manchester, Sheffield, Croydon, Birmingham new generation trams,

A GREAT WEEKEND AT MANCHESTER BUS MUSEUM UNTIL...

Dave Packer our stand neighbour and Boyle St , purveyor of vintage transport views and countless anecdotes, or was it anecdotes told countless times?

We had a really superb weekend at Boyle St, great atmosphere, good two days trading, masses of friends, the time flew by. We got home Sunday evening and the wind swept Mandy off her feet on the path, twisting both knees, hurting her ankle etc, just praying that it hasn't done any lasting damage. Last night it was a real pain getting the photos on the blog but all seems well, some more photos taken this morning.

BOYLE ST BUS MUSEUM MANCHESTER

This weekend its been the Manchester Boyle St Christmas Cracker at the bus museum, on the way up to unload Friday afternoon it was kicking out time at Whalley Range, the girls in school uniform were vandalising the bus stop outside, other passengers stood by seemingly unphased.
At the museum a good day, lots of friends met, great days trading, outlook wet and windy tomorrow so come along and help keep the place warm, some photos from todays event

WARRINGTON MEMORY LANE AGAIN BUSES

Someone remind me what my fourth picture was all about, a strip from an early trip to Warrington, I also did my first video there. The others are a bit more obvious, it really was a good spot in those days. I finished the LT trolley bus film after tea, car loaded for Boyle St, rendering some images before copying, perhaps I'll be able to put a clip on You Tube tomorrow night. Also sent out news letter re direction to blog etc.

CHRISTMAS IS COMING AND SOME MEMORIES

This blog shows that I've now cracked the issue of scanning and printing / archiving on disc my original negatives and at random a couple of views in Rawtenstall , Lancashire in the 1970s, it was reel No36 so one of my first attempts at bus photography. As promised an old PMP Christmas card this time showing an golden oldie Sheffield scene. Last night I finished the views on the Bus Marque LT Trolleys, doing the soundtrack tonight after I've packed the car up ready for Boyle St. The You Tube posting seems to be getting quite a few hits, hopefully I'll get the trolleys on it at the weekend then I'll start on Birmingham, Manchester, Croydon and Sheffield tram launches which are oft demanded on DVD.

YOU TUBE UPLOAD SUCCESS

As you will have already read we played host to our webmaster Fraser last night. He successfully overcame the problems I'd faced uploading on You Tube and you can now find a 10 minute except on my You Tube site.

My editing equipment is 3 years old and this is a lifetime in computing, thus it didn't have MPEG 3 and 4 which is a requirement. I have to export the completed film then encode it and finally load onto YouTube, all worthwhuile when you see the quality achieved. Even my rubbish attempt with grotty Leicester shots on poor quality image scored over 500 viewings and the very brief Truckfest clip got rated 5 stars. Fraser also helped set up a bulk loading system for e bay which should save time and blood.
Talking of which I could have strangled the daft so and so's who have blocked off our motorway access at night, taking Fraser back to Preston we ended up on the M60 then to M61, only prob was the M60 was down to 1 lane at Trafford centre, a frustrating late night run, but the trweacle puidding was scrumptious last night.

GREATER MANCHESTER ARCHIVE COMPLETE

Great news, I managed to get the film on Greater Manchester area buses finished last night, an hour of nostalgia from circa 64 - 81 including municipals, L United SELNEC and GMPTE eras. I await the rest of John Bishops archive film to complete the outstanding London Country production and intend to do a few easy films covering Sheffield, Croydon and Birmingham tram launches in the next week before embarking on a WMPTE area archive feature which will have lots of previously unused footage. With the latest editing software and DVD the archive material real does loom many times better than when first released. Putting realistic sound tracks on could last forever so there is usually a compromise somewhere along the line.
Tonight Fraser is looking at the You Tube downloads an our web site design. A rough night with more rain, still mild. Christmas cards on the go, some photos asap I promise.

AUTUMN CLEANING

A busy day on Sunday getting the GMPTE archive sound sorted, still at leas one more evenings work required but broke off yesterday for some food and wine with friends. Today I popped to Southern Cemetery at lunch time and did an Autumn clean up on Mandy's family graves. Tomorrow our web master Fraser is coming down from Preston and hopefully will sort out the problems posting on You Tube and update the web site. Mild but windy weather kept us awake last night. In to work at 6am, very busy at present.

PHIL AND HIS HARMONICS

ok you have to be of a certain age to get the title, anyway with John off sick we had plenty of room to spread ourselves out at the Bridgewater Hall last night for the BBC Philharmonic concert which was being recoded for BBC radio 3. An evening of French 20th music some of which was amazing and some hard going, the orchestra under the ever enthusiast almost bouncing. leaping command of Yan Pascal Tortelier.

What about jam and Jerusalem last week on telly, what a load of wasted comic talent, xceratinly no latter day Dads Army.

Anyway today I hope to make a start on the sound track for the GMPTE area archive, visit the garden centre, have friends for lunch, finish adding to e bay from yesterday and be up early tomorrow as I've a very busy week in my 'proper' job. Phew

Message received yesterday

On behalf of Richard Morant, it is with the deepest sorrow that I have to tell you all of the death of his brother Geoffrey Morant at 0900 today, 23rd November 2006. As I know he was in contact with many other people, would you please inform as many mutual friends as possible to make sure the word is spread as far and wide as possible.

As soon as I know, I shall send a further e-mail announcing the date of the funeral.

I was very busy last night working on the new regional bus archive programme with about a third of images trimmed and the whole hour on the computer. A lot to go so fingers crossed that I make it for Boyle St. John Bishop was due this weekend but has been taken ill, this might mean a delay on the London Trolleybus film also the Best Ever London Country. Hope you are fit again soon John. Looks as if I'll be writing Christmas cards instead of sinking Guinness

last night I was busy finishing off the new covers, dealing with Christmas post, downloading from digital camera and posting the new stuff on e bay. After that and a bit of tele I made a start on the regigional bus archive covering the greater Manchester area, I'd say about 15 minutes will be brand 'new' to PMP and for all will be first time on DVD .New shots of GMPTE Oldham, Stockport and Piccadilly.

CHRISTMAS IS COMING THE CARDS HAVE ARRIVED

It must be nearing Christmas as our cards have arrived, the PMP series have become something of a collectors piece, I know that several people have them framed. I hope to post some of the more memorable over coming days as a sort of advent calender from myself and Mandy. This years card features something close to my heart, I'll say no more, if anyone misses out on a personal copy I'll post that as well before the holidays.

The Christmas rush for PMP orders at last seems to be gathering momentum, it seems impossible to get people to order early.

The Merlin / Swift London Transport film is now ready to send out, I finished the sound track and cover last night. I'll put it on e bay with a couple of other outstanding. There are aso a few old Lonsdon re-releases to go on.

Next in the pipeline is the first of our new regional bus arhcive series featuring 1960s-80s around the Greater Manchester area which I hope to have ready for Boyle St Christmas cracker sale in December.

YUMMY PUDDING

Well as promised the great dinner at Le Macassar at the weekend courtesy of Miguel, the upside down pear pudding with home made ice cream and the venison with mash/carrots plus cabbage, all preceded by chunky salmon steak.
What of the bus, well another of my early Manchester photos, Foden attempted a come back into the bus market and I chased this one around Chorlton in my old Ford Cortina Estate which used to leak petrol everywhere.
Last night I got all the images ion the Bus Marque Merlin /Swifts finished , tonight I start on the sound track. Fraser our webmaster is updating the web site, we are simplifying it , removing the variations on the listings to just the one overall list. Getting rid of the various language options several of which get translated incorrectly. We also hope to simplify price detail / payment method instructions. Fraser is coming round next week to resolve my problems posting on YouTube.
